When I first dreamed about starting a podcast in the early days of 2024, I wasn’t sure about the path, the topic, or the logistics.

I was excited when I helped relaunch the Leaderish Podcast later that summer. My co-host and I shared many insights and hosted a number of thoughtful guests over two seasons.

This year, I’m excited to launch a new podcast: DunnWise Perspectives, beginning March 27.

This podcast will focus on mindset and the stories of people who have overcome challenges through resilience, hope, and grit.

If you follow my weekly blogs, you may have noticed an underlying theme. The thread that quietly weaves many of those thoughts together is mindset.

I’ve talked and taught about mindset for many years. I’ve always believed in creating the future you want for yourself. Creating dreams and visions, then building the plan to achieve them. Behaving like the person you see yourself becoming in three to five years.

This kind of progress is grounded in the belief that we can cross the finish line, open new doors, and move forward toward something better.

My goal for the podcast is simple: I want listeners to see themselves in the stories. They may not have experienced the exact same trauma or obstacle, but they can recognize the emotions and challenges in their own lives. and discover ways to move forward.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the first three episodes:

  • After taking out the trash, she loses her health, marriage, and her career. Just when life begins to turn around after several difficult years, she experiences loss once again.

  • After the birth of her third child, the father walks out. Moments before committing suicide, she hears a voice from God telling her to start a nonprofit for single mothers. She has no idea where to begin, but ten years later the charity is thriving.

  • He was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and passed from foster home to foster home because he wouldn’t or couldn’t stop crying. Then an extraordinary foster mother stepped in and refused to let him fail.

There will also be stories about surviving cancer, overcoming addiction, facing bullying, and many other journeys of resilience.

My own story begins at age fourteen, when I lost my mother to cancer. Suddenly I was cooking meals, doing laundry, and helping manage the household. In many ways, I had to grow up quickly.

When I left home at eighteen, new challenges followed. Years later I learned that I carried the same BRCA gene mutation that took my mother’s life, forcing me to make difficult health decisions of my own.

But I also had something powerful: support.

Friends, mentors, and communities surrounded me during those moments. They made sure I didn’t fall, and when I did stumble, they helped me get back up and keep moving forward.

I’ll share more of my story throughout the podcast and later in the book I’m working on.

If you have a story you’re ready to share, click here and tell me a little about it. Then we can connect over coffee or Zoom so I can learn more.

Because sometimes the story we need to hear is the one that reminds us we’re stronger than we think.

In the meantime, set a reminder for Friday, March 27, and search for DunnWise Perspectives wherever you listen to podcasts or on YouTube.
